A stylish staycation with the Scaramanga Indy bag

Lockdown has eased so we’ve been getting out and about and exploring our local area. For the moment, staying at home is the new going away.

I’ve been dragging Mr Jones around some lovely outdoor spots in East Sussex and the weather’s been perfect for it. We’re lucky that there’s loads to see and do in our area plus we live near the coast which is a massive bonus.

Introducing the stylish Scaramanga Indy bag

My new Indy bag from Scaramanga was the bag of choice for our mini staycation. The Indy bag is new to the Scaramanga range and inspired by vintage satchels and flight bags from the 70s. Remember back in the day when airlines used to give out flight bags? We still have a couple – a TWA bag and a Pan Am flight bag. I’m guessing some of you won’t have even heard of those airlines let alone remember the flight bags…

Compact but roomy

The Indy is a brilliant everyday bag. It’s compact but also big enough to carry everything I need for a day’s exploring – the tardis of the bag world. I fitted in everything I needed for our days out including my I-phone, Hydro flask, camera, purse, tissues, sunscreen, sunglasses plus case, reading glasses plus case, face mask, hand sanitiser, pen and lip salve. I could go on, but safe to say the Indy is big enough to get all the essentials in but small enough not to get in the way. The Indy measures W20cm x H26cm x D7cm.

I comfortably fitted all this gear into my Indy…

Secure

The Scaramanga Indy bag stored all my belongings safely. As well as a zipped main compartment with inside full-length pocket there are two secure zipped outside pockets. The large zipped one on the back sits against the body when you’re wearing the bag so that’s good for valuables. The small zipped pocket on the front was useful for storing my facemask and hand sanitiser and would also be good for keys and a wallet.

I love that the pocket on the front of the Indy is big enough for my mobile phone. I’ve got the I-phone 8 plus which is a bit bigger than most mobiles but it fits in easily and the magnetic flap still clips firmly shut. Win. The Indy has an adjustable strap which can be worn cross-body or as a shoulder bag. The sturdy top handle is a handy feature.

The bag is secure, durable and weather resistant. My gear won’t get damaged if the weather turns – I usually have my Panasonic compact camera with me and I don’t want it to get wet. It’s small and neat and takes great images – most of the photos in this post were taken with it.

Sustainable and eco-friendly

Scaramanga’s bags are stylish, smart and practical with thoughtful attention to detail. The bags are all hand-made using traditional, artisan skills so every item is slightly different and unique. The hunter leather is highly durable and I can see my Indy bag lasting for life, getting better and better as the years go by. Faux might be fun but leather’s for the long-haul and better for the planet too. The leather used for these bags is ethically sourced. Only eco-friendly tanning techniques are used with no harsh chemicals. This means the colour will vary from bag to bag to give a unique look.

The antique brass style fittings and zips are sturdy and complement the leather beautifully. The zips have leather tabs which make opening and closing a cinch. The vintage look is great for casual days out and the Indy would actually work well as a man bag too. The bag arrived in it’s own cloth dust bag with the Scaramanga logo.

Looks like the perfect travel bag to me. I love how sturdy and secure it looks, I think it's the last bag a pickpocket or thief would target! And I do remember those airlines! :)
