Kovered Eden Backpack review

The search for the best backpack for travel, work or daily adventures is never over here at The Travelbunny. Materials, tech, design and airline rules are constantly changing but it might also have something to do with the fact that I have a bit of a luggage addiction…

I have been talking to the lovely people over at Kovered, a British company, who design and make stylish backpacks, holdalls and messenger bags which are gorgeous to look at and made to last a lifetime.

They’ve sent over one of their Eden vinyl 14L backpack for me to try out. It’s great for travel, work or outdoor adventures and is as stylish as it is practical. It’s beautifully made too.

Before I review the Kovered Eden backpack let’s take a look at the story behind the brand.

The Kovered story

Kovered started life back in 2013 in the city of Bath in the UK. A group of engineers and designers with a passion for the environment and beautiful design collaborated to bring about the first Kovered pieces.

Lifetime guarantee

If any part of your bag fails then Kovered will repair or replace it. Obviously, normal wear and tear or accidental damage isn’t included but if a zip breaks, a handle clasp snaps, or a fastener comes loose, they will put it right. This makes the Eden Vinyl backpack excellent value at £49.

Sustainability and responsibility

Sustainability is important and influences every decision from design and creation to delivery and beyond. Re-use, recycle and repurpose is a crucial part of the business and everything is manufactured ethically, with sustainable materials and socially responsible procedures.  

Packaging is 100% recyclable and my Eden backpack arrived in a lovely cotton storage bag. For every 25 bags sold a tree is planted. It really doesn’t get much better than that does it?

The Eden Vinyl Backpack

The Eden backpack comes in five colours; black, navy, yellow, grey and moss green which I ordered and I love.

It’s compact, beautifully hand-finished and the hardwearing, waterproof vinyl fabric will keep the contents safe and dry. The main compartment opens out on three sides using zip closures which are fully covered when closed. Much better than just a narrow top opening and far easier to pack and unpack. It’s a great backpack for women.

The dimensions are H 42cm x W 31cm x D 11cm which means as well as being functional, it’s stylish thanks to its slimline design. The large interior compartment comfortably fitted my clothes and a small washbag.  

There’s a roomy laptop pocket inside the main compartment, a zipped section, pockets and pouches for keeping things like cables and adaptors neatly stashed away.  

There’s plenty of room inside for at least a day’s essentials but I could pack enough for two days away plus laptop and camera.  

Fully packed the rucksack was comfortable to carry with adjustable shoulder straps and a carry handle. I liked the handle clasp which clipped together the two handles to keep things neat and tidy.

On the front are two zipped compartments, one fitted my camera and sunglasses case in comfortably and the other is ideal for smaller bits and pieces. There are two side slots for a water bottle and a small umbrella.

If you’ve got valuables then a there’s a discrete zipped pocket behind the straps but there’s no lockable pocket. 

The Eden is ideal as an overnight or short break backpack, but could easily be taken out on a long hike or used as a work or commuter bag.  

So, let’s find out how I got on with my Eden Backpack.

I used the Kovered Eden backpack for my hand luggage on my first flight since early 2020. Things have changed with lots of new rules and regulations and that includes the carry-on baggage allowance with Easyjet.

The Eden backpack conforms to the new Easyjet sizing regulations for free carry-on luggage and fits neatly under the seat in front of you. For carry-on luggage which goes in the overhead lockers you’ll need to pay an additional fee.

As you can see the Eden easily fitted into the Easyjet bins for free carry-on luggage at check-in.  

Disclaimer: I had hold luggage for our trip with Easyjet so I didn’t actually use the Eden rucksack for all my luggage, just for my laptop, jacket and flight essentials. However, I tested it to see if it’d work as a good weekend away bag and the results are in.

You might not think you’ll fit much into this backpack because it looks so neat and compact. Think again, here’s what I comfortably packed for review purposes.

• Underwear
• 1 x book
• 1 x small washbag
• Make-up
• 1 x long-sleeved t-shirt
• 1 x cap
• 1 x water bottle
• Laptop cables and phone charger

The backpack was an ideal flight bag. I also used it for sightseeing days out during our visit to Gran Canaria and for time spent on the beach at Maspalomas dunes.

Kovered Eden backpack – the verdict

I found the Kovered Eden backpack has plenty of space inside with enough useful pockets to keep things tidy and organised and it’s great that the dimensions are suitable for Easyjet free carry-on luggage.

The Eden is stylish and smart looking, but also very practical for travel and outdoor activities. I can see the Eden coming on many more adventures with me both at home and overseas.

Update: I’ve been using my Kovered backpack for over two years now. I still love it and use it for my hand luggage on every trip. It looks good as new and I couldn’t be happier with it.
