Sunday morning dawned crisp, fresh and bright. Since we probably won’t get too many more days like this before winter we pulled on our boots and took a walk in nearby Battle Great Wood. The ancient woodland, managed by the Forestry Commission, is over 200 acres and I adore the fact that it’s right on our doorstep.
The idea was to practise my photography and capture some of the autumnal colour in the woods but there wasn’t as much turning foliage as I’d hoped for. Not to be put off we headed off-road for some foraging into the soft leaf-mould under the trees. I was delighted to discover a forest full of fungi. Easily pleased, me! Mr Jones was happy collecting a few logs ready for splitting with his new log splitter and adding to our woodshed. (more…)
