THIS COMPETITION IS NOW CLOSED
Blacks in collaboration with Explore.co.uk are offering budding photographers and bloggers the chance to win a top prize of £2000 of adventure travel and £150 to spend at Blacks for four runners-up in this fabulous photo competition. So what would you spend £2000 worth of adventure travel on? If you’ve been reading my Iceland posts you may want to plan an epic adventure to experience The Golden Circle – I hope I’ve inspired you. Maybe you prefer warmer climes and the crystal waters of Greece or Turkey’s volcanic interior. If wildlife’s your thing then Africa might be calling.
There are four categories: Wild, Fast, Panoramic and Epic. How you interpret each one is up to you so get as creative as you like. Here are my entries…
Gullfoss Waterfall, Iceland
The powerful Hvítá river rushed over the first step and roared towards me thundering and foaming, hints of turquoise shining beneath the surface, before pitching over the crevice and exploding into the canyon below leaving me feeling completely invigorated. Gullfoss, in Iceland’s Golden Circle definitely has the wild factor.
Ski Tracks in the French Alps
Imagine this – Crisp Alpine air filling your lungs and brushing your cheeks whilst shooshing through fresh powdery snow just a little faster than you feel comfortable with. Majestic mountains are your backdrop on a bluebird day. Total exhilaration! There’s something about skiing that puts me in awe of our world and makes me feel totally alive. This photo sums up all those feelings for me.
Emilia Romagna, Italy
There has to be an image from Italy in my selection and this is it. This was one of my first views of the Italian hinterland in the Emilia Romagna region near Montefiore Conca and one that started my love affair with Italy. Easy to see why I’m hooked.
Hot Air Ballooning over Cappadocia, Turkey
Something I’ll remember always is our dawn hot-air balloon flight over the panoramic volcanic landscape in Cappadocia in Turkey. About 80 balloons took flight as the day dawned and the first glints of sunshine warmed the day. Really didn’t know whether to put this in ‘panoramic’ or ‘epic’ category as it fits both…
The Dead Vlei, Sossusvlei
Another epic memory is visiting the Dead Vlei at Sossusvlei, Namibia. The trees in the dried river pan are desiccated and the colour of coal. I was amazed to see that a bird had built its nest in one tree in an attempt to raise its young in this wilderness.
