Northern France is an area that, for some unknown reason, has completely escaped my travel radar. It’s easily accessible from England, especially as we live just over an hour’s drive from Dover, so it’s odd that we’ve not Channel hopped more. Maybe it’s because it’s just so close that when we’re planning our travels we’ve overlooked the hidden French gems that are right under our nose. We rectified this last month with a mini road trip with DFDS Ferries to Hauts-de-France. Our mission was to explore Amiens, a city in northern France, a surprise attraction nearby and spend the night in some unusual accommodation. We also squeezed in a short visit to Saint-Valery-sur-Somme, a medieval coastal town.
Who doesn’t love a weekend exploring a new place, especially when it’s home to a quirky pier, a lighthouse and rows of colourful beach huts. Add in the Salthouse Harbour Hotel and the company of my daughter, Amy, and that ticks all my boxes. We set off to the English county of Suffolk to visit Southwold and Ipswich on a girly weekend.
When it comes to gastronomy, Iberostar Grand Hotel Portals Nous Mallorca brings world-class à la carte dining plus the moon and the stars. For drinks or pre-dinner tipples guests can head to the stylish Selini lobby bar. Selini, of course, is the Greek word for Moon. A gourmet experience of stellar proportions awaits In the Astir Restaurant. Astir means star in Greek and this restaurant shines brightly.

October’s arrived and to chase away the cool misty mornings comes an exciting month of cruise news and all things cruise related. As the evenings draw in ‘Plan a Cruise Month’ is the perfect time to think about booking a cruise and taking advantage of some fabulous offers and promotions which the cruise lines are offering throughout October.
The Majorca boutique hotel scene has a new addition. Stepping through billowing white curtains into the grounds of Iberostar Grand Hotel Portals Nous felt like walking into a luxury fragrance ad. Everywhere is so pristinely white and stylishly radiant at this Majorca boutique hotel that I almost expected Charlize Theron to come wafting across the terrace in a cloud of mimosa. I didn’t have time to ponder this much before being welcomed into the Selini Bar where a glass of crisp Moet accompanied check-in. The attention to detail is impeccable.
There are so many good reasons for travelling with just carry-on luggage. No worries about your luggage not turning up with you at your destination. Avoid ridiculous charges for checking-in hold luggage. No waiting at the carousel when you’d rather be out of the airport like a rocket itching to explore. But which carry-on luggage is the best one for you? If you’re looking for the perfect carry-on luggage I might just have the answer. Let me tell you why I think CabinZero could be the best carry-on backpack for travel.
