Destinations presents Travel 2021

Travel’s been off the cards for over a year now and I’ve really missed it. But as things slowly begin to open up and vaccinations are rolled out, I’m looking forward to some UK breaks this summer. Thoughts of travelling overseas are tempting for later in the year, and, if things go well, much further afield in 2022.

If you’re looking to plan a UK staycation this year or a big trip next year then you won’t want to miss Destinations presents Travel 2021, an online edition presented to you by Destinations: The Holiday and Travel Show.

The online event coincides perfectly with travel opening up again in England on 17 May and will give you plenty of opportunities to consider a huge choice of exciting travel possibilities – all within your comfort zone.

What is Destinations presents Travel 2021?

It’s a virtual, online event designed to whet your wanderlust and provide all the tools and information you need to research and safely plan your next trip. It’s packed full of travel inspiration and expert advice.

In the past, the show has been held in Manchester and London but next month it’s taking place live online from 7-9 May 2021. Content will remain on the online platform until 16 May. It’s free to register and I’m sure it won’t surprise you that I’ve signed up already.

So, what to expect from the event…

If you’re looking for ways to indulge in a little escapism, then you’ll find it at Destinations. Exhibitors and partners including The Times & Sunday Times, Stanfords and Wanderlust magazine are all on hand to provide bucket loads of travel inspiration. Sit back and get lost in a travel film, cook along with a food demo or grab a coffee and immerse yourself in an adventure article.

First port of call is Destinations TV with a fabulous programme of live talks, films and inspiring interviews with travel personalities and industry experts.

Discover some of the best UK off the beaten track adventures, authentic activities, and new experiences. The tourist boards for England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland uncover some of the UKs best kept secrets from food to hiking and culture to wildlife and offer inspiration for your UK staycation this year. Join them for unique experiences, holiday ideas and advice on travelling safely.

If food plays a big part in your travels, then tune into Chef Yui Miles’ Thai cook along. The Masterchef quarter finalist will be chatting all things food and demonstrating a favourite street food dish, Pad Krapao Guung, that’s spicy Thai basil with prawns to you and me.

As part of Stanfords Travel Writers Festival there are interviews with some favourite travellers, authors, and adventurers. Simon Reeve talks about his bestselling memoir Step by Step and his often-dangerous travels that have taken him to far flung corners of the world.

Ray Mears discusses his new book ‘We are nature’ and shares fieldcraft tips and how to enhance our experience of the natural world both in the UK and further afield.

Nicky Kelvin, Head of The Points Guy UK, shares ingenious tips on how to subsidise your travel using loyalty points and airmiles.

The Wanderlust Travel Advice Clinic is hosted by Lyn Hughes, founding editor of Wanderlust magazine, and Kate Humble reveals how she and her family learned to appreciate an uncomplicated way of life detailed in her book A Year of Living Simply. There are talks about sustainable travel, cruise travel and Gemma Thompson shares her top 5 tips for solo travel and much more.

As you can see from the timetable of talks, there’s a host of captivating travel content to soak up, so it’s just as well the whole programme will be available to watch on-demand until 16 May.

Expert Advice

Wanderlust inspiration is all very well and exciting but it’s essential to have in-depth information to make your travel dreams a reality. Especially in the current climate. Destinations has this covered and combines exciting travel inspiration with all the practical information and expert advice you’ll need to book confidently.

Many people are looking to enjoy travel closer to home this year whilst others are looking to plan a big adventure in the next year or two to make up for a lack of travel in the past year. The research, planning and anticipation of a trip is all part of the enjoyment for me whether it be in the next county or halfway across the world.

The event is the perfect on-line hub for planning and researching travel. From summer staycations in the UK to faraway places in the future, the exhibitor list covers the UK, Europe and into remote corners of the globe. There are options to suit every budget.

There’s free one-to-one advice from travel consultants, leading independent operators, hotels and tourist boards from the world over. If you need guidance on itinerary planning, transportation, accommodation, or in-depth advice from regional experts, all the information is available to assist you in making informed decisions.

Access to a Live Chat or via a One-to-One consultation facility is available so visitors will be able to liaise directly with consultants, companies and trusted suppliers.

Importantly, the event will also give you a chance to gather all the information you need about the latest travel updates, safe travel, COVID policies and assurances. This means you can book with confidence as destinations begin to open up again.

If you’re looking for an ‘off the peg’  trip the Holiday Shop will be open and offering a wide selection of exciting ‘ready to book’ trips.

Don't talk about it... I had cabin fever for nearly a year now. But the 6th of October is me getting on a Lufthansa flight to Tbilisi. In December have I booked Poznan's Ice sculpture festival and Christmas in Istanbul. After that, I will be in the full swing (I hope). Never been to a Travel Expo - I don't really know why probably because I been busy with food and hospitality. Miss you ... !!!!

I'm really looking forward to it. I need a travel fix so badly! I've been to Destinations many times and while we can't go there in person this year a virtual event has to be the next best thing.

I am too - some of my favourite travel presenters are speaking and as it looks like the weekend will be a washout I can't think of anything I'd rather be doing!

Sounds like compulsive viewing, Suze. This past year must have changed your working life beyond belief. It's hard to stay informed with the developing situation so I'll be interested in the expert's opinions.

There are a lot of intereviews and panels that I'm keen to tune into. Yes, things have changed a lot but I've been happy to explore new parts of the UK when domestic travel has been permitted. I hope all's well with you Jo?
