An Isle of Man short break makes for the perfect UK weekend away without travelling too far from home. If you take a trip across the water and visit one of Britain’s islands then it sort of feels like you’ve gone overseas anyway.

The first of my Isle of Man short breaks showed me that this little island in the Irish Sea is the perfect destination for a UK staycation. And that it’s not just for TT petrol heads. There’s a lot to see and do on the Isle of Man that doesn’t involve burning rubber.

Lavender fields have been calling me ever since I clapped eyes on a gorgeous photo of Provence in France. Row upon row of plump purple haze paled into the horizon on a misty summer’s dawn. I was instantly enchanted and knew I’d have to see them for myself one day.

Gin has long been my tipple of choice so I was delighted to find out this week that there’s a whole day devoted to everything gin. #WorldGinDay happens each year in June and began in 2009 (why did that take so long?). There are over 70 gin inspired events planned worldwide.

To celebrate I’m going to share with you some tips and a recipe to let you in on the secrets of how to make the perfect gin and tonic. So, let’s bow down to the botanicals and celebrate World Gin Day with a tipple or two.
